The symptom most often related to kidney stones is the extreme pain experienced in the abdomen or groin region. Because the urinary tract has connections to the reproductive and digestive systems, this pain is usually accompanied by nausea, fever, and vomiting, and well as the frequent need to urinate. As the ureter attempts to expel the obstruction, it contracts around the stone, causing the discomfort. Sometimes, patients may confuse the pain as something else, particularly involved with the lower intestine because they are in the same general are of the body.
You may have a kidney stone if you
have pain while urinating
see blood in your urine
feel a sharp pain in your back or lower abdomen—the area between your chest and hips
The pain may last for a short or long time. You may have nausea and vomiting with the pain.
If you have a small stone that passes on its own easily, you may not have symptoms at all.
Males generally tend to develop kidney stones more often than women
